Can the mind cause the body to exhibit false symptoms?

hi there
i have heard of a medical phenomenon whereby when a person believes they have a certain disease/disorder, their body begins to exhibit false symptoms of the disease/disorder. I think its something to do with the effects the mind has on the body. So my question is, is this an actual ‘thing’ or not? and if it is, what is it called?
